NORTHWEST VETERANS for PEACE

Updated: 1-16-07

DEPLETED URANIUM is being used in our weapons systems. This uranium is not depleted and it is still dangerous and it's half life is 4.5 billion years. The residual from these weapons comtaminate the enviroment. It is not only being used as weapons but as armor on military weapons. This puts even more of our troops in danger. When these vehicles are hit it speads the uranium that was armor and settles on the troops.

The states of Connecticut and Louisiana have passed laws that all their troops returning from an area of depleted uranium use are to be tested. There are tests for low level exsposures but they are very exspensive and the Veterans Administration Medical Centers do not do this testing. The Bush Administration has not provided funding for testing. It is now up to us to demand that our troops be tested. Join Northwest Veterans for Peace in contacting your state senators and represenatives to pass the same law to test Oregon troops.

HELP NORTHWEST VETERANS FOR PEACE TEST IRAQI VETERANS FOR DU CONTAMINATION. WE WILL HAVE THEM TESTED WITH A NEW TEST THAT IS MORE ACCURATE AND RELIABLE. THE TEST IS EXSPENSIVE BUT ISOLATES THE URANIUM ISOTOPES FROM NATURAL BACKGROUND URANIUM. GO DOWN TO OUR ADDRESS AND MAIL A DONATION OR CLICK ON PAYPAL. THE TIME IS NOW TO REALLY SUPPORT THE TROOPS.

Our Position Statement

Northwest Veterans for Peace was founded during the buildup for the 1990 Persian Gulf war when a small group of veterans got together in a hallway, outside an anti-war activist meeting, where we talked of our shared experiences and concerns over 'just another war'. We now are comprised of veterans from WWII, Korea, Vietnam, the Persian Gulf War I, and Somalia, and many committed supporters. We have about thirty active members and other, less active supporters. We operate from our homes in and around Portland, Oregon where we do outreach to veterans and their family members in need of support. We also have a speakers bureau for the schools in Oregon and S.W. Washington. We spoke in about eighty classrooms last year. We believe a youth well educated in the reality of war can only benefit society. We do not believe the young people are receiving a balanced perspective on war in today's society. If the true consequences of war are not shared person to person, it is more likely to be accepted as an alternative to settling international disputes." The first casualty of war is truth". NWVP also airs a monthly radio show, Veterans Voiceon KBOO 90.7 FM the 3RD Wednesday of each month and distributes an occasional newsletter, Collateral Damage.
One of our main focal points is Gulf War Veterans and the many problems they are enduring. Using our tools and the experience of nuclear vets, agent orange victims, and the reality of PTSD, we are doing all we can to advocate for veterans and their family members within a dysfunctional system.
In addition to these community-related activities, NWVP is committed to the support of its members. We have strong bonds with each other and believe our mutual support is as important as our other activities.

Northwest Veterans for Peace has open meetings every Sunday morning at 11:00 at 'Tully's Coffee', (formerly Marsee's Bakery) located at 935 N.E. Broadway, Portland, Oregon. You are welcomed to attend and participate.

Revised and added to: 1-15-05

NWVP's Book list contains both fiction and non-fiction titles that we consider to be of unusual philosophic and/or literary interest. All the books in some way address the nature and effects of violence.
